Vendor Spotlight :: Critsey Rowe

Critsey Rowe’s great passion in life is photography. Her view of photography as an art process that tells of a moment, a glimpse of reality into a personal vision. She uses the tools of modern photography to capture an image that will inspire for generations.

Critsey’s talent is capturing the joy of the occasion to reflect each client’s natural personality whether it is a traditional Jewish ceremony at Temple, a non-denominational on the beach in the Caribbean or a Catholic wedding in a Cathedral.

For over ten years, she has photographed couples locally in Charlotte, on the beaches of Puerto Rico, under the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and even on the walkway of the Brooklyn Bridge. For Critsey, the job is about more than providing high-quality portraits. The reason so many people hire her is that she’s personable. Because Critsey offers a boutique service, she’s able to get to know couples and help them relax on camera. To see more of her work please visit her website www.critseyrowe.com

Where do you get inspiration from?

I love fashion so I get a lot of my inspiration from magazines. My clients also inspire me – I like to get to know my clients so I can understand what kind of portraits they will love and be excited about. I enjoy photographing couples and seeing the love they have for each other come alive in the photos. I want to capture their true personalities and not just photograph them my way but combine my artist flair with capturing their uniqueness. Every client is different and inspiring.

With all of the craziness that goes along with your career, how do you unwind?

Hmm, that is a tough one because I love what I do and my job really is the same as my hobby. I am almost never without a camera and it is very relaxing to me to photograph what is going on around me. Whether I am hanging with friends or at a family event – I am still always taking photos.

What would you tell a younger you who was just starting out in this business?

To take business classes and learn the business side of things. Photographers being artist are not typically geared toward business stuff but it really is a must to know. I learned this the hard way but thankfully I did learn and things are so much easier these days.

What are 3 favorite things in life that you couldn’t live without?

My husband, my pets and of course my camera. Can I throw in one more? I could not live without my friends and family I am so blessed with the most amazing people in my life. Oh my gosh, and I have the most amazing clients – life would not be as great without them, Okay technically that is way more then two… ; )

Other than Charlotte, what has your favorite location been to shoot?

Another tough question. I love love love NYC but I also love the Caribbean and Mexico oh, and Europe, who could forget Europe. There are so many amazing places that I have been and would love to go back to. One of the places I have not been yet to photograph a wedding or event is Asia and it is next on my list!

If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be doing?

Eeek! I can’t even imagine…okay, so maybe I could play along. I would be a fashion designer – not that I dress that way or anything but I could so see being able to come up with some cool idea’s for clothes.
